In case you haven't been following our Instagram, Masonry has gone through a lot of changes in the last few months. From moving out of downtown Austin to East Austin, from finally settling on the proper pronunciation of gif (it's with a soft G sound), to hiring a new designer, we're constantly moving up from the ground floor every day. In the pandemonium of unceasing, unrelenting evolution, we're pleased to help you get to know a little bit about our newest designer, Stephanie White.

What college did you go to/what’s your Degree in?

Texas A&M University, Landscape Architecture with a minor in New Media Art.

What first got you interested in design?

In high school I really loved sports and art. When it started to become more clear that I probably wouldn’t make it to the NBA or play professional soccer when I got older, I started to lean more towards art. I surrounded myself with it in college, taking up painting, photography, video, mixed media work and design. I was majoring in Landscape Architecture at the time and started to notice that I preferred visually presenting my projects to making the projects themselves. That’s when I picked up on the fact that graphic design was my dream career.

What’s one of your favorite things about Austin/the Austin design scene?

It’s home! Having grown up in Austin, this place feels familiar and known. Still, I love the change and growth. While I was away at college Austin became one of the top design cities in the US! I’ve been able to meet, work with and learn from some of the big names in design. It’s awesome and a bit surreal to be suddenly surrounded by the people who I had always been inspired by!

Also, food.

We’ve always had the food game down, but somehow it’s even better now!

What’s on your Top 5 movie list?

1. Fantastic Mr.Fox

2. The Lion King

3. Jurassic Park

4. Gladiator

5. Beasts of the Southern Wild

What would your dream project be?

Brand and design a coffee shop. From cup design all the way to interior design. Yeah, that’d be neat.

What’s something you can’t help but spend money on?

I have a Field Notes problem. I go through them pretty quickly with sketches and to-do lists, but I still constantly have a huge stack of unused notebooks. They’re too pretty not to buy, ya know? There’s something wrong with me, but it’s cool.

Also, well-designed posters. Colin already said that in his blog post though, so I’ll just stick with Field Notes.

Best places to go for happy hour?

I’m a big fan of Easy Tiger, Stouthaus and Thunderbird. Typically if I’m going to happy hour it’s to chill and just chat, so places that aren’t too crazy or wild are my favorites.

If you could only eat one food for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Fairly often when I’m eating tacos,  I’ll turn to the those sitting near me and say “if I could only eat one food for the rest of my life, it’d be tacos.” So I guess my answer is tacos.

What’s something you have/will become accidentally famous for?

I threw out the first pitch at a Round Rock Express game in middle school. You all probably remember - it was a pretty big deal.

What gif best describes your everyday vibe?

This was a hard one, but I think this one does a pretty good job.

Maybe more like this one?
